Come on, 2022! Whatcha got for me?

Here we are in a new year, which came upon us rather quickly in my opinion, but I am welcoming 2022 with open arms. The hope for what this year will bring, is accompanied by a bit of expectation, dare I say. Since I believe in the power of planning and goal-setting, and have been quite intentional about those things, it comes as no surprise to me that I am, for once in my life, confidently embracing expectations. No apprehensions, no fear, no worry, no disappointment. Only a welcoming, hopeful, happy, and optimistic expectancy.

Life is truly what you make it. And, I have decided to make 2022 one of the best years of my life. Everything that I want to happen, will happen. Things that I am not prepared nor planned for will happen as well, and I will gladly embrace them and move through them. What are you making of your life? Have you thought about what you are going to do this year to make your life look more like the way you really want it to? You know, when you day dream at your desk or in the shower, and imagine what your perfect life would look like. What are you planning to do to get yourself there?

Me? Oh, yes the planning is real. The work will be real. And the outcomes will be real, too! In honor of the name of my blog, FML two times: family, food, motherhood, music, love and lifestyle, I have decided to share a few things upcoming in 2022 from each of these categories!

My family has changed drastically. My twin daughters, my first born babies, are now adults and living on their own. That means my grand baby no longer lives with me, either. How bittersweet it is to have and raise a family. You pour yourself into little people for 18+ years and then, whether you’re ready or not, they suddenly get to make their own decisions. They take more responsibility for their lives, actions, and outcomes, and, since I am being fully transparent here, it stings a bit. It makes me proud and happy to see where they are and to see them take care of things. But, it also reminds me how quickly life can pass by! Now comes the college ans life planning in serious mode! And, I love it.

Now, let’s get into the food category. I decided to transition back into the vegan lifestyle. It is not easy. In the first few weeks, I found myself constantly forgetting not to add honey to my tea. Because, bees. After about a month and a half, I forgot that when I get hungry while out running errands, vegans do not run into the Safeway deli and buy two baked chicken legs and half a small sized container of mayonnaise-based potato salad to snack on. Transitioning. Now, it is easier to avoid all animal products, and if I slip up, it is with much intention. When I decide to get a pint of full-on dairy cookies and cream ice cream, it is with thought. I know it is not vegan and I choose to indulge. That’s the thing about life, we can do it as we please. However, I am very excited to be a vegan and happy to be incorporating a lot more raw fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and legumes into my diet. I feel so much better. If you’re familiar with the “itis” which is known in the black community as the feeling of euphoria and relaxation that overtakes you after a delicious meal and makes you want to go immediately to sleep, then you know that it is inevitable after eating certain meals. Almost all good meals. But, since transitioning to the vegan lifestyle, I notice that after eating, I do not get the “itis”. Instead, I feel energized and really good after eating. Even if going totally vegan is not for you, I invite and encourage you to at least add raw fruits and vegetables to every meal that you eat. When snacking, choose nuts, seeds, dairy free options, and fresh fruits and vegetables. I guarantee you that you will feel a positive difference.

Now, let’s talk about the music of 2021! Like every year, there are the picks of popular summer anthems, popular “cuffing season” or love songs and cuddle music, and other seasonal jams that most people agree are at the top of the music chart, right? Hello. Billboard’s Top Songs chart exists for a reason whether you agree with the picks or not. Music from all genres can make me move. I am a fan of R & B mainly, but I also enjoy Pop, Rap, Country, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Afrobeat/Afro-Soca, and Go-Go. I will save my music playlist for another blog post in the future. If you have listened to any of the other songs I shared in the playlists in previous posts, I am sure you are looking forward to the next one, too.

Ah, love. What’s love got to do with 2022, you ask? For me, a lot. I do hope to grow in love this year. The action of love must be intentional and this year I am going to be even more intentional about loving my children, my family, my friends, and myself more , in their love languages. That is what is important, wouldn’t you agree? To love someone in their love language is the best way to show your love for them because they interpret it the best. I hope to be remarried one day. My goal is to be married by 40. But, life has it’s way of working things out so I will be as intentional as possible within my control.

Now, the last category in the acronym of my blog is life and life this year is already great and is getting better and better. Again, with intention and work, that is. I am moving out of Washington, DC and making a temporary home in Maryland. The last child of mine living in my home will be off to college in two years and so he and I will make temporary roots in Maryland until he graduates from college. After that, I am not exactly sure where I will live but I do not plan to stay in Maryland. My small stationery company, which you can check out by clicking here, is doing well, too. I as accepted into Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator Program and that is doing wonderful things for me as a business owner and for the growth and structure of my business. My plan for 2022 is to get Stuck It To Me into retail stores. I am also working on self-publishing my second children’s poetry book, which is super exciting. Self-publishing is all about up front funding to get it started so that is my focus right now. Check out my kickstarter for that by clicking here.

Life is indeed what you make it and I am making each day, each moment of my life as positive and happy as possible, by choice, by intention, and with work. What are you planning to make of 2022? What are you going to do intentionally with work and effort to achieve your dreams and goals? Get to it. 2022 is here and whatever it has for us, let’s be ready and willing to accept it and roll through it with our heads held high and smiles on our faces.

Happy New Year!!
