What’s the last ugly thing you thought about yourself? And how recent was it?
Are you surprised with your answer? Being completely honest with yourself, was it more recent that you thought something ugly or kind about yourself ?
Perhaps you’re familiar with the question: if you talked to your friends like you talked to yourself, would they still be your friends? And that’s a good question, right? According to an article published on LinkedIn, a study conducted by the American Science Foundation found that out of all the thoughts we think daily, over 80% of them are negative! That shocked me! But when I sat back and thought about it, I realized that it wasn’t so shocking after all. When I thought about the number of negative thoughts I have about myself everyday, it wasn’t so shocking. I’m constantly working to control my thoughts and it’s because I’ve learned and experienced the power of positive thinking!
For some odd reason, we find ourselves thinking negatively about ourselves, than we do positively, no matter how awesome we are, no matter how much we’ve accomplished, no matter how much we’ve conquered. It’s sad, really. But, it can be undone! It is something that, once we’re aware of, we can tap into and be more intentional to control.
I want to encourage each of you to slow down and pay attention to how you talk to yourself. If you find yourself talking negatively, ask yourself, “Who are you talking to like that!” And then, check yourself!
